Sustainability

“We proudly commit to going beyond carbon neutral by voluntarily offsetting 110% of our estimated emissions through verified climate credits.”

Measure

Completed our first emissions audit

(Scope 1,2,3) FY’23

Offset

Going one step further, we retired 110% of the carbon credits required for FY’23

Manage

4Mile has committed to quarterly emissions audits to ensure we are tracking our goals

Goal

Aligned to SBTi’s emissions reduction target of 50% by 2030 & Net Zero by 2050

We recognise our role in mitigating the effects of climate change and understand the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By going carbon neutral, we take responsibility for our carbon footprint and actively work towards a more sustainable future.

4Mile has partnered with Australia’s largest voluntary carbon offset provider, Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM), to offset our Australian operations.

We will do this by supporting high-quality, verified carbon projects that help mitigate climate change, and can protect wildlife and support communities.

4Mile’s commitment is to only offset any emissions we have not been able to avoid, to date these are the carbon projects that 4Mile proudly supports.

Bush Regeneration

Key information:

Project type: Native Forest Regeneration

Location: Queensland & New South Wales

Carbon Standard: Australian Government Emissions Reductions Fund

Bush regeneration projects in New South Wales and South-West Queensland help support native forests and sustainable agricultural practices. These projects rehabilitate vegetation in areas that have historically been cleared, improve soil quality, and can provide habitat for native wildlife. These projects store carbon in regenerated native forest. They generate carbon offsets in return for removing greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.

Rainforest Protection – Papua New Guinea

Key information:

Project type: Native Forest Conservation

Location: Papua New Guinea

Registry: Verra

The April Salumei REDD+ project in the East Sepik Province of PNG has been developed as a nature-based solution, to conserve and sustainably manage this globally significant rainforest, recognised as an exceptional biodiversity hotspot by the Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard, also known as CCB Standard (SCS, 2011).

In addition to the carbon emission reduction element of the project, it also has a range of other co-benefits. The April Salumei Working Group, formed to assist with managing the project, provides employment opportunities to the local community. By protecting the forest and biodiversity of the area, this project simultaneously provides a key source of income for traditional owners.

Project type: Native Forest Conservation

Location: Indonesia

Registry: Verra

The Katingan Mentaya Project is a tropical peatland forest protection and restoration project in Central Kalimantan Province of Indonesia, on the island of Borneo. The protected forest area covers 149,800 hectares. In partnership with 34 local villages, the project helps reduce poverty, enhance the wellbeing of communities, and reorient deforestation trends and their destructive environmental and climate impacts.

Renewal Energy

Winds of Change – Turkey

Key information:

Project type: Renewable Energy

Location: Turkey

Carbon Standard: Gold Standard

This wind farm project supplies the national grid with zero emission energy generated by the wind resources of the Gökçedağ Mountains of Osmaniye province in southeast Turkey. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by displacing energy from thermal power plants, the project has also created employment opportunities in the area. This project helps to secure supplies for rural communities and works with locals to identify infrastructure needs in order to improve connectivity and community facilities.
